What's the difference between Cyber Essentials and Plus?+
Both cover the same five technical controls. Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment checked by a certification body. Plus adds a hands-on technical audit of your systems.
How much does Cyber Essentials cost?+
With ACS, Cyber Essentials starts from £900 +VAT in year one, depending on the work needed after a survey of your site and IT, and about £640 +VAT to renew. Cyber Essentials Plus and IASME Cyber Assurance are priced after a short assessment.
How long does it take?+
It depends on how much needs doing and how quickly changes can be rolled out across your business. We start with a survey of your site and IT, then give you a clear plan and timeline. If your systems are already in good shape it can be quick; if there's work to do first, the timeline depends on how soon the security changes are made.
We already have an IT company. Can you still certify us?+
Certainly. We'll work alongside them, or just give them the list of what needs changing.
Is Cyber Essentials mandatory?+
Not by law. But it's required for many central government contracts that handle personal or sensitive information, the Ministry of Defence expects it from suppliers, and more and more larger firms and insurers ask for it from their supply chain.
How long does a Cyber Essentials certificate last?+
Twelve months. To stay certified you renew each year, which with us is about £640 +VAT, and we can remind you before it runs out.
What happens if we don't pass first time?+
We'd rather you didn't find out at the assessment. That's why we start with a gap check and help you fix what's needed before you submit, so there are no surprises.
Do you cover Norwich and the rest of Norfolk?+
Yes. We're based in Dereham and certify businesses across Norfolk, including Norwich, King's Lynn and Great Yarmouth. The Cyber Essentials Plus audit is done on site or remotely, depending on your setup.
